Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Fariyyan (فَرِيًّا): An immense, monstrous thing; something fabricated and unprecedented. It refers to an act so grave and shocking that it cuts through the normal order of things, like a lie that is utterly baseless and enormous.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After giving birth to Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) under the palm tree, far away from her people, Maryam (peace be upon her) carried her newborn child and returned to her community. She came to them holding the infant in her arms, having obeyed the command of her Lord to go back. When her people saw her in this state—a chaste, devout woman from a righteous family, now appearing with a baby—they were utterly stunned and horrified. Their shock turned into words of severe reproach: "O Maryam, you have indeed brought an immense, fabricated matter!" They meant that she had committed something unprecedented and monstrous in their eyes, for she had arrived with a child without a known father. This was, to them, an act of such magnitude that it defied all their norms and expectations, especially coming from a woman known for her piety and devotion. Their words were filled with grief, disbelief, and sorrow, for they had held her in the highest esteem, and now they saw what they thought was a grave sin. Yet, as the story unfolds, this very moment becomes a stage for one of the greatest miracles of Allah, turning their accusation into a testimony of divine power.
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us a profound lesson about patience and trust in Allah during moments of intense trial and public humiliation. Maryam (peace be upon her) faced the harshest accusations from her own people, yet she did not argue or defend herself with words—she simply pointed to the child, and Allah spoke through him. When you are misunderstood, slandered, or judged unfairly by others, remember that Allah sees your truth and your sincerity. He is the One who defends His righteous servants, often in ways that astonish the world. Let this story inspire you to hold firm to your faith and integrity, even when the whole world turns against you. For Allah never abandons those who trust Him, and He can turn your moment of greatest trial into a miracle that silences every critic. The Qur'an is filled with such stories of steadfastness, inviting you to draw strength from them and to know that the final victory belongs to the believers.
