Surah Maryam — Verse 35

Word Meanings:

• Subḥānahu (سُبْحَانَهُ): Glory be to Him; declaring Him free from every imperfection, deficiency, or attribute that does not befit His majesty.
• Qaḍā amran (قَضَىٰ أَمْرًا): When He decrees or decides a matter, meaning when He wills its existence with absolute authority.
• Kun fayakūn (كُن فَيَكُونُ): "Be," and it comes into existence instantly, without delay or resistance.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse establishes the absolute perfection of Allah and refutes any notion that He could have a child. It is not befitting—nor is it possible—for Allah, the Creator and Sustainer of all that exists, to take for Himself a son from among His creation. He is far exalted and utterly transcendent above such attributes that belong to His creatures, who are in need of others and reproduce to continue their kind. Allah, however, is Self-Sufficient, Eternal, and without any need or partner.

The verse then delivers a profound proof of His perfection: when Allah wills something to happen—whether great or small, grand or humble—He merely says to it, "Be," and it comes into existence immediately, exactly as He intended. There is no delay, no obstacle, no intermediary, and no cause that can prevent His command. He does not need a son to assist Him, inherit from Him, or continue His work, for His power is limitless and His will is executed the very moment He decrees it.

This is a call to reflect on the nature of Allah: if He can create the heavens and the earth, the angels, and all of existence with a single word, then how could anyone claim that He has a son? Such a claim diminishes the understanding of His majesty and contradicts His absolute perfection. The verse invites every person to purify their belief, to recognize Allah's greatness, and to submit to Him alone, for He is the One who creates and commands, and to Him all matters return.
