Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Fir‘awn (Pharaoh): The tyrant ruler of Egypt during the time of Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him, who claimed divinity and oppressed the Children of Israel.
- Yattaqūn (they fear/are mindful): To be conscious of Allah, to fear His punishment, and to fulfill His commands while avoiding what He has forbidden.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah recounts how He called His Prophet Musa, peace be upon him, and commanded him to go to a people who had strayed far from the truth — the people of Pharaoh. These were oppressors who had transgressed all bounds, enslaving the Children of Israel, killing their sons, and sparing their daughters, while their king arrogantly declared himself a god.
Allah instructed Musa to approach them with gentleness and wisdom, saying: "Will they not fear Allah?" — meaning, will they not be mindful of His punishment and abandon their disbelief, tyranny, and corruption? The call was not one of harshness or confrontation, but an invitation to reflection and repentance. Musa was to remind them that their power, wealth, and status would not protect them from the consequences of their actions, and that the only true safety lies in submitting to the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: no matter how powerful or misguided a person or nation may become, the door to guidance remains open. The message of truth is delivered with compassion, urging people to awaken their conscience before it is too late. It also reassures the believer that even the most arrogant tyrants are weak before Allah, and that the duty of the one who calls to Allah is simply to convey the message clearly, leaving the outcome to Allah alone.
Reflect, dear reader — if Musa was sent to a tyrant like Pharaoh with words of mercy and invitation to taqwa (God-consciousness), how much more should we, as believers, strive to embody gentleness and wisdom in our own calls to goodness? And how essential is taqwa in our own lives — that inner awareness that keeps us steadfast in obedience to Allah and distant from His displeasure? Let this verse inspire you to be among those who fear Allah, for that is the path to true success in this life and the next.
