Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Rabbi (My Lord): The vocative address to Allah, acknowledging His sole authority and sovereignty.
  • Qawmi (My people): Refers to the nation of Prophet Nuh (Noah) peace be upon him, to whom he was sent as a warner.
  • Kadhdhaboon (They denied me): They persisted in rejecting his message, calling him a liar, and refusing to accept the truth he brought.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this profound moment, Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) turns to his Lord in sincere supplication after his people’s relentless rejection. He says: "My Lord, indeed my people have denied me." This is not a complaint born of despair, but rather a declaration of his complete reliance on Allah after centuries of patient calling. For nine hundred and fifty years, Nuh invited his people to worship Allah alone, warning them of the consequences of their disbelief. Yet, they responded with mockery, arrogance, and stubborn refusal. When they finally challenged him to bring the punishment he promised, Nuh raised his hands to the heavens, acknowledging that his mission had reached its end and that only Allah’s justice could prevail. This verse captures the turning point where the prophet entrusts the matter entirely to Allah, seeking His judgment between him and his people. It reflects the beautiful relationship between a prophet and his Creator—one of absolute trust, submission, and the certainty that Allah’s wisdom is perfect, whether in granting victory or in delivering justice.

Da'wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a profound lesson in patience and reliance on Allah. Prophet Nuh’s unwavering dedication for centuries, despite continuous rejection, is a shining example for every believer. When you face opposition in calling others to the truth, remember that even the greatest prophets endured hardship. Your role is to convey the message with sincerity and wisdom; the guidance is in Allah’s hands alone. Let this inspire you to remain steadfast, to never lose hope in Allah’s mercy, and to always turn to Him in times of difficulty. For when the servant raises his hands to his Lord, the heavens listen, and the response—whether in this world or the next—is always beautiful. And know that Allah’s justice is perfect; He never abandons His righteous servants, and He always distinguishes the truth from falsehood.
