Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Āmannā" (آمَنَّا): We have believed, with sincere faith and conviction.
  • "Rabb" (رَبِّ): The Lord, the Creator, the Sustainer, and the One Who governs all affairs.
  • "Al-'Ālamīn" (الْعَالَمِينَ): All the worlds — every created being, from angels and humans to jinn, animals, plants, and the entire universe.

Explanation of the Verse:

When the magicians of Pharaoh witnessed the miraculous staff of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) swallowing their illusions, they realized with absolute certainty that this was no mere trickery or sorcery. It was a divine truth that pierced their hearts and illuminated their minds. In that profound moment, they fell into prostration and declared: *"We have believed in the Lord of all the worlds"* — the Lord of every creature, the Lord of Moses and Aaron, the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything between them.

This declaration was not a hasty or superficial statement. It was a testimony born from the deepest recognition of truth. They acknowledged that the power they witnessed could only come from the Creator of all existence — the One who has no partner, no equal, and no rival. Their faith was so complete that they immediately surrendered to the truth, even though they knew that Pharaoh would retaliate with severe punishment.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a timeless lesson about the power of truth and the beauty of sincere faith. These magicians were experts in their craft — they had spent their lives mastering illusion and deception. Yet, when confronted with the undeniable truth of Allah's power, they did not hesitate or cling to their pride. They bowed in humility and proclaimed their faith without fear of the consequences.

How many of us, when faced with clear guidance, delay our repentance or hesitate to embrace the truth because of worldly attachments? Let this moment inspire you: if Pharaoh's own magicians could abandon their status, their wealth, and their safety for the sake of Allah, then what is stopping us from drawing closer to Him? The door of faith is always open, and the moment you sincerely say *"Āmannā bi Rabbil-'Ālamīn"* — "We have believed in the Lord of all the worlds" — your entire existence transforms. Allah does not abandon those who turn to Him; He elevates them, forgives them, and grants them a peace that surpasses every worldly treasure. Embrace the truth today, for it is the key to eternal success.

Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified.
So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah].
They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds,
The Lord of Moses and Aaron."
[Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all."
