Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- تُلَقَّى (tulaqqā): You are being given/receiving repeatedly and continuously.
- مِن لَّدُنْ (min ladun): From the presence of, directly from.
- حَكِيمٍ (Hakīm): The All-Wise, who perfects everything He does and places everything in its proper place.
- عَلِيمٍ (Alīm): The All-Knowing, whose knowledge encompasses all things, hidden and apparent.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger of Allah, you are indeed receiving this Qur'an directly from the presence of Allah Himself — not from your own imagination, not from the teachings of any human, and not from the whispers of any devil. It is being delivered to you as a divine revelation from the One who is *Hakīm* — All-Wise in His creation, His commands, and His legislation — and *Alīm* — All-Knowing, from Whom nothing is hidden, not even the smallest secret in the heavens or the earth.
This verse is a direct response to the disbelievers of Quraysh who claimed that the Qur'an was fabricated by Muhammad ﷺ himself. Allah refutes their false accusation with an emphatic affirmation: *"Indeed, you are receiving the Qur'an from the presence of the All-Wise, the All-Knowing."* The particle of emphasis (*inna*) and the emphatic *lām* together leave no room for doubt — this Qur'an is unequivocally from Allah.
The combination of *Hakīm* and *Alīm* is profoundly meaningful here. Because He is *Hakīm*, everything in the Qur'an — its laws, its stories, its guidance — is perfectly placed and perfectly suited for humanity's welfare. Because He is *Alīm*, He knows exactly what His servants need, what harms them, and what benefits them, in every time and every place.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this: The One who gave you this Qur'an is the same One who created you, who knows the depths of your soul, your struggles, your hopes, and your fears. He has sent you this Book not to burden you, but to guide you. When you open the Qur'an, you are not merely reading words — you are receiving a direct communication from your Lord, the All-Wise and All-Knowing. Every verse is a gift of mercy, every command is a prescription for your well-being, every prohibition is a protection for your heart.
So approach the Qur'an with reverence and love. Let it be your companion, your light, and your guide. For the One who sent it down knows you better than you know yourself, and He has placed within its verses everything you need to navigate this life and reach the eternal success of the Hereafter.
