Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Sadaqa Allah (صَدَقَ اللَّهُ): Allah has spoken the truth — His statement is true and His promise is certain.
  • Millata Ibrahim (مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ): The religion, way, and creed of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him — which is pure monotheism (Tawheed) and complete submission to Allah alone.
  • Haneefan (حَنِيفًا): One who turns away from all false religions and deviates from every path of misguidance, inclining solely toward the truth of Islam — upright and steadfast in pure monotheism.
  • Mushrikeen (الْمُشْرِكِينَ): Those who associate partners with Allah in His worship, divinity, or attributes.

Explanation of the Verse:

Allah commands His Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, to declare to the People of the Book and all who dispute: "Say: Allah has spoken the truth." This is a decisive affirmation that everything Allah has revealed — in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur'an — is absolute truth, and that His promises are never broken. It is also a subtle rebuke to those who claimed falsehoods about Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, attributing to him their own invented creeds.

Then comes the divine directive: "So follow the religion of Ibrahim, a Haneef." This means: If you truly claim to love Ibrahim and belong to his way, then prove it by following the very religion he upheld — the religion of pure submission to Allah alone, which is none other than Islam itself. This is the same religion that Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was sent to revive and perfect. It is the religion of sincerity, devotion, and complete surrender to the Creator, free from all forms of polytheism, innovation, and blind imitation of ancestors.

The verse concludes with a powerful clarification: "And he was not of the polytheists." Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, never associated any partner with Allah — neither in his belief, nor in his worship, nor in his daily life. He stood as a towering example of pure monotheism, breaking the idols of his people with his own hands and calling them to worship the One True God. Therefore, anyone who claims to follow Ibrahim yet falls into shirk (associating partners with Allah) — whether through worshipping idols, saints, or any created being — has truly contradicted his legacy and is not upon his path.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse carries a timeless and universal message for every soul that seeks the truth. It calls us to return to the pure, unadulterated faith of Ibrahim — a faith that transcends time and place, a faith that is the very essence of Islam. The beauty of this call is that it does not ask us to abandon reason or to follow blindly; rather, it invites us to embrace the natural disposition (fitrah) upon which Allah created humanity — the inclination to worship the One who created us, sustains us, and deserves our complete devotion.

Dear reader, reflect upon this: Ibrahim, peace be upon him, was willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of Allah — his home, his people, and even his beloved son. Yet he never wavered in his monotheism. Today, Allah extends the same invitation to you: to purify your heart from every form of false worship, to turn your face sincerely toward your Creator, and to find peace in knowing that you are upon the same path as the beloved Prophet of Allah. This is the path of true freedom — freedom from the shackles of superstition, blind tradition, and the worship of creation. It is the path that leads to eternal success in this life and the Hereafter. Embrace it with an open heart, and you will find a sweetness of faith that nothing in this world can match.

📜 Verse 93-97 — Aal-Imran

All food was lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel had made unlawful to himself before the Torah was revealed. Say, [O Muhammad], "So bring the Torah and recite it, if you should be truthful."
And whoever invents about Allah untruth after that - then those are [truly] the wrongdoers.
Say, "Allah has told the truth. So follow the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth; and he was not of the polytheists."
Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Makkah - blessed and a guidance for the worlds.
In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham. And whoever enters it shall be safe. And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves - then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds.
