Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- إِلَٰهٌ (Ilāh): The One Who is worshipped; the Deity Who alone deserves devotion and servitude.
- الْحَكِيمُ (Al-Ḥakīm): The All-Wise; the One Who perfects everything He creates and decrees with profound wisdom.
- الْعَلِيمُ (Al-ʿAlīm): The All-Knowing; the One Whose knowledge encompasses everything, hidden or manifest.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse establishes the absolute and exclusive divinity of Allah — He alone is the true God worthy of worship in the heavens and on the earth. Just as the inhabitants of the heavens — the angels — worship Him alone, so too must the inhabitants of the earth direct their worship solely to Him. There is no deity in the heavens other than Him, and none on earth besides Him. Every act of worship, whether prayer, supplication, or devotion, is due to Him alone, for He is the One Who created all and sustains all.
The verse then describes Allah with two of His most beautiful attributes: Al-Ḥakīm (the All-Wise) and Al-ʿAlīm (the All-Knowing). His wisdom is manifest in the perfection of His creation, the precision of His decree, and the justice of His legislation. Nothing He does is without purpose, and nothing He ordains is devoid of benefit. His knowledge encompasses every detail of His creatures' affairs — their intentions, their deeds, their needs, and their circumstances. Nothing is hidden from Him, whether in the depths of the earth or the heights of the heavens.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder this profound truth: the same God who governs the vast galaxies and the celestial realms is the very God who watches over you, hears your whispers, and knows the secrets of your heart. He is not distant or indifferent — He is the God of the heavens and the God of the earth, equally present in His knowledge and power over all creation. When you raise your hands in supplication, you are not calling upon a deity confined to a particular place or time; you are calling upon the Lord of all worlds, the All-Wise who knows what is best for you, and the All-Knowing who understands your struggles better than you understand yourself.
This verse invites you to purify your worship, directing it solely to Allah — the One Who deserves it in every corner of existence. It reassures you that your worship is never in vain, for the One you worship is fully aware of your efforts, your sincerity, and your devotion. Let this certainty fill your heart with tranquility and your life with purpose, for you are connected to the Almighty Who is above the heavens and yet nearer to you than your own jugular vein. Embrace this truth, and let it transform your relationship with your Creator — a relationship built on love, trust, and unwavering submission to the All-Wise and All-Knowing.
