📖 English Meaning
But those who deny Our verses are deaf and dumb within darknesses. Whomever Allah wills - He leaves astray; and whomever He wills - He puts him on a straight path.

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

(Summ): Deaf — they do not hear the truth in a way that benefits them.
(Bukm): Dumb/mute — they do not speak what is right and true.
(Dhulumat): Darknesses — plural of darkness, referring to the depths of misguidance and ignorance.
(Yudlilhu): He leads him astray — by abandoning him to his own choices due to his persistent rejection of truth.
(Sirat mustaqim): A straight path — the clear, unswerving way of guidance and righteousness.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Those who deny Our signs, proofs, and revelations — the verses of the Qur'an and the evidences of Allah's oneness — are like the deaf who cannot hear what benefits them, and the mute who cannot utter what is right. They wander in layers of darkness: the darkness of ignorance, the darkness of stubbornness, and the darkness of sin, unable to see the light of truth. How could such a person ever find the way? It is impossible, for they have sealed their own hearts and refused to use their faculties as Allah intended.

The matter ultimately rests with Allah alone. Whomever He wills to leave astray — due to their own persistent rejection and arrogance — He abandons them to their misguided choices, as a just consequence of their deeds. And whomever He wills to guide — because of their sincerity and openness to truth — He places them firmly upon a straight path, a path with no crookedness, leading to His pleasure and eternal success.

This verse carries a profound message for every soul: the faculties of hearing, speech, and sight are trusts from Allah. Those who use them to seek truth will be guided to ever greater light, while those who close their eyes and ears to the truth will be left in ever deeper darkness. It is a call to reflect — do we truly listen to the Qur'an with open hearts? Do we speak the truth with our tongues? Do we seek the light that leads us out of every darkness?

The door of guidance is open for all who sincerely knock. Allah's mercy is vast, and His guidance is near for those who turn to Him with a pure heart. Let this verse be a reminder that no matter how deep the darkness, the light of Allah can pierce through it for anyone who sincerely seeks Him. And the greatest success lies in being among those whom Allah places upon the straight path — the path of the Prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous.

📜 Verse 37-41 — Al-An'am

And they say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, "Indeed, Allah is Able to send down a sign, but most of them do not know."
And there is no creature on [or within] the earth or bird that flies with its wings except [that they are] communities like you. We have not neglected in the Register a thing. Then unto their Lord they will be gathered.
But those who deny Our verses are deaf and dumb within darknesses. Whomever Allah wills - He leaves astray; and whomever He wills - He puts him on a straight path.
Say, "Have you considered: if there came to you the punishment of Allah or there came to you the Hour - is it other than Allah you would invoke, if you should be truthful?"
No, it is Him [alone] you would invoke, and He would remove that for which you invoked Him if He willed, and you would forget what you associate [with Him].
