Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Bakhilū (بَخِلُوا): They were miserly, withholding what should be given, refusing to spend in charity and good causes.

- Muʿriḍūn (مُعْرِضُونَ): Those who habitually turn aside, showing aversion and disregard.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the narrative about a group of people who made promises to Allah—pledging that if He granted them from His bounty, they would give in charity and be among the righteous. Yet, when Allah fulfilled His side of the covenant and bestowed upon them wealth and provision from His grace, they failed to honor their word. Instead of spending in the path of goodness, they clutched their riches tightly, withholding the right of Allah and the needy from their wealth. They turned away from obedience, and their turning was not a momentary lapse but a reflection of their ingrained habit—a persistent aversion to faith and its demands. Their hearts were not softened by the blessing; rather, the blessing became a test they failed, exposing their ingratitude and the shallowness of their commitment.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, this verse is a mirror for the soul. How often do we promise Allah that if He grants us a need, we will be more grateful, more giving, more devoted? Yet when the provision arrives, we forget our words and cling to what we have, as if it were ours alone. Remember that wealth is a trust from Allah, and in it lies the right of the poor and the needy. True gratitude is not merely in words but in action—opening your hand to give, your heart to share, and your life to obedience. Do not let the blessings of Allah become a proof against you. Be among those who, when given, give back; when blessed, become a source of blessing to others. For Allah loves those who are generous, and He multiplies the wealth of those who spend in His cause. Let this verse awaken in you the spirit of sacrifice and the joy of giving, so that you may be among the successful in this life and the Hereafter.
