Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • In kullu man – "Indeed, every single one" – emphasizing totality and leaving no exception.
  • Ātī – "Will come" – referring to the arrival on the Day of Resurrection, not in this worldly life.
  • ʿAbdan – "As a servant" – in a state of complete humility, submission, and recognition of servitude to Allah.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse establishes a universal truth that applies to every created being without exception. Allah, the Most Merciful, declares that every entity in the heavens and the earth—whether angels, humans, or jinn—will inevitably come before Him on the Day of Resurrection in a state of utter humility and submission. No one will be exempt from this; no power, status, or rank will shield any creature from standing before their Lord.

The verse uses the word "Ātī" (coming) to describe this inevitable encounter, indicating that it is a certain event that will surely occur. The description of coming "as a servant" (ʿabdan) highlights the true nature of every being's relationship with Allah: total dependence, complete submission, and recognition that all sovereignty belongs to Him alone. On that Day, every soul will acknowledge its servitude, whether it did so willingly in this life or not.

The choice of the name "Ar-Raḥmān" (The Most Merciful) in this context carries profound meaning. Even in the scene of universal judgment and accountability, Allah reminds us of His mercy—for He is the One whose mercy encompasses all things, and even His justice is tempered with compassion. The verse subtly reassures believers that the Lord before whom they will stand is not a harsh tyrant, but the Most Merciful, who rewards His obedient servants with His grace and bounty.

This verse also serves as a powerful reminder of the equality of all creation before Allah. The mightiest angel and the humblest human being stand on equal footing when it comes to their servitude to their Creator. This understanding should instill in us a sense of humility, breaking any trace of arrogance or pride, and remind us that our true honor lies not in our worldly status, but in our devotion and obedience to Allah.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart to the reality of your relationship with your Creator. You are, and always will be, a servant of Allah—whether you acknowledge this truth now or are forced to recognize it on the Day of Judgment. How beautiful it is to embrace this servitude willingly in this life, with love and devotion, rather than being compelled to admit it when it will be of no benefit!

The Most Merciful invites you to come to Him as a humble servant in this world—through prayer, supplication, and obedience—so that you may meet Him on that Day with peace and honor. Do not delay this return to your Lord, for every soul will surely come to Him. The wise one is he who comes to Allah willingly, with a heart full of faith and deeds of righteousness, rather than being dragged to His presence in a state of heedlessness and loss.

Let this verse be a source of hope and motivation: the same Most Merciful who will gather all creation before Him is the One who has opened the doors of His mercy and forgiveness for those who turn to Him. Come to Him now, as a servant, and He will raise you to the highest ranks of honor in the Hereafter.
