Surah Maryam — Verse 92

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse stands as a decisive and definitive rejection of the false claim that Allah, the Most Merciful, could ever have a child. It declares with absolute clarity: *"It is not befitting for the Most Merciful to take a son."*

The meaning is that having a child is utterly impossible and inappropriate for Allah's perfect nature. Why? Because the act of taking a child stems from a need — the desire for companionship, the longing for support, the hope for continuation, or the wish to overcome loneliness. These are all human weaknesses and limitations. But Allah, the Most Merciful, is completely free of all such needs. He is Al-Ghani (the Self-Sufficient), the One who is rich beyond any need, the Eternal who was not born and does not give birth, and the One whose perfection leaves no room for any deficiency whatsoever.

The verse uses the divine name "Al-Rahman" (The Most Merciful) deliberately, as if to say: How could the One whose mercy embraces everything — the One who provides for all, sustains all, and cares for all — ever need a child? His mercy is universal and complete; He is the Father-like provider to all creation in the sense of absolute care, yet He is far exalted above any human or physical relationship.

This verse is a powerful call to purify our belief about Allah. It invites every human being to reflect: If you truly understand who Allah is — the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Sustainer of every living thing, the One who answers the call of the distressed — you would never attribute to Him something that contradicts His majesty. The claim that Allah has a son diminishes His greatness in the mind of the believer, and this verse sweeps away such false notions with a single, profound statement.
