Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ (We saved him): We rescued and delivered him from the punishment that befell his people.
  • وَأَهْلَهُ (and his family): His household and those who believed with him.
  • أَجْمَعِينَ (all together): Every single one of them, without exception.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this verse, Allah tells us about His response to the supplication of His Prophet Lut (peace be upon him). When Lut called upon his Lord against the wicked people who persisted in their corruption and immorality, Allah answered his prayer and saved him along with his entire believing family. This was a complete and total rescue — not one of them was left behind. The word "أَجْمَعِينَ" (all together) emphasizes the comprehensiveness of this divine salvation.

However, the exception is noted in other verses: his wife, who did not share in his faith, remained behind with those who were destroyed. She had outwardly been part of his household, but inwardly she had betrayed the trust of prophethood by siding with the disbelievers. This teaches us a profound lesson: salvation is not by lineage or association, but by faith and righteous deeds. Being related to a prophet does not benefit a person if their heart is not with the truth.

This verse is a beautiful demonstration of Allah's mercy toward His righteous servants. When Lut was distressed by the corruption around him, Allah did not abandon him — He saved him and his family from the torment that engulfed the wicked. It is a reminder that no matter how surrounded we are by evil, Allah is always capable of delivering His believing servants from the midst of it. The believer's trust in Allah is never misplaced, and His help comes at the perfect time.

For us today, this carries a powerful message: hold firmly to your faith even when the world around you seems to be drowning in sin. Allah sees your struggle, hears your prayers, and will make a way out for you, just as He did for Lut and his family. Your salvation is in His hands, and His promise to the believers is true.
