Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

(Lā Tahinū): Do not weaken, do not lose heart, do not become feeble or slacken in your resolve.
(Wa Lā Taḥzanū): Do not grieve, do not be sad or sorrowful.
(Al-Aʿlawn): The highest, the uppermost, those who are elevated in rank and status.
(In Kuntum Muʾminīn): If you are true believers (i.e., since you are believers).

Tafsir (Explanation):

O believers, do not grow weak or lose heart in the face of hardship, and do not grieve over what befell you on the day of Uḥud — whether it was loss of life, injury, or the pain of defeat. Such feelings are not befitting for you, for you are the ones who are elevated and uppermost. Your elevation is twofold: in the Hereafter, you are destined for Paradise and eternal success; and in this world, ultimate victory belongs to you through your faith and through Allah’s support, provided you remain steadfast upon His command and trust in His promise.

This verse is a profound source of comfort and strength. Allah is telling you: do not let a single setback define your reality. Your identity as believers elevates you above all circumstances. Even when the world seems to turn against you, your faith is your shield, and your hope in Allah’s help is your weapon. The one who truly believes in Allah and His Messenger knows that the final outcome belongs to the righteous, and that no trial — however painful — can diminish the honour of a believer who clings to his Lord.

So rise above despair, for you are not like those who have no hope. You carry within you the light of īmān, the promise of Allah’s victory, and the certainty that every difficulty is but a stepping stone to a greater reward. Let your hearts be firm, your spirits high, and your trust in Allah unshakable — for indeed, with faith comes elevation, and with patience comes triumph.

📜 Verse 137-141 — Aal-Imran

Similar situations [as yours] have passed on before you, so proceed throughout the earth and observe how was the end of those who denied.
This [Qur'an] is a clear statement to [all] the people and a guidance and instruction for those conscious of Allah.
So do not weaken and do not grieve, and you will be superior if you are [true] believers.
If a wound should touch you - there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it. And these days [of varying conditions] We alternate among the people so that Allah may make evident those who believe and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs - and Allah does not like the wrongdoers -
And that Allah may purify the believers [through trials] and destroy the disbelievers.
