Translation Transliteration — As-Sajdah

قُلْ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ لَا يَنفَعُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِيمَانُهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ ۝٢٩

Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

Yawm al-Fatḥ (يَوْمُ الْفَتْحِ): The Day of Decision/Judgment — the day when Allah settles the matter between the believers and the disbelievers, and His decree is carried out.
Lā yanfaʿu (لَا يَنفَعُ): Will not benefit or avail.
Īmānuhum (إِيمَانُهُمْ): Their belief/faith (which they might profess at that moment).
Lā hum yunẓarūn (وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ): They will not be granted a respite or delay — no second chance will be given.

The Explanation (Tafsir):

O Messenger, tell those who reject the truth and mock the promise of punishment: when the Day of Decision arrives — the Day when Allah’s judgment is carried out and the believers are granted victory over the disbelievers — on that Day, no faith will benefit those who had denied Allah in this worldly life. Even if they were to declare belief at that moment, seeing the reality of the Hereafter with their own eyes, such faith would be of no use to them, for it would be a faith born of compulsion and desperation, not of sincere choice.

Moreover, they will not be granted any delay or respite. They will not be given time to repent, to return to their Lord, or to make amends. The door of repentance will be firmly shut, and the time for action will have passed. This is the ultimate loss for those who persisted in disbelief and mockery throughout their lives.

This verse serves as a profound reminder that Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the door of repentance for us *now* — in this life, before the Day arrives. He does not wish to destroy us, but rather to give us every opportunity to turn back to Him. Yet, this opportunity is limited and will not last forever. The wise believer seizes this precious time, while the heedless one delays until it is too late.

A Call to Reflection:

How merciful is our Lord, that He warns us *before* the punishment comes! He tells us clearly: today, your faith and repentance are accepted; tomorrow, on that Day, they will not be. So why wait? Why postpone the return to Allah when we do not know when our last breath will be? Let this verse awaken our hearts — let us be among those who respond to their Lord while the door of repentance is still open, and before the Day when no faith will benefit and no respite will be granted.

📜 Verse 27-30 — As-Sajdah

27أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّا نَسُوقُ الْمَاءَ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ الْجُرُزِ فَنُخْرِجُ بِهِ زَرْعًا تَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ أَنْعَامُهُمْ وَأَنفُسُهُمْ ۖ أَفَلَا يُبْصِرُونَ

Have they not seen that We drive the water [in clouds] to barren land and bring forth thereby crops from which their livestock eat and [they] themselves? Then do they not see?

28وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْفَتْحُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

And they say, "When will be this conquest, if you should be truthful?"

29قُلْ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ لَا يَنفَعُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِيمَانُهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ

Say, [O Muhammad], "On the Day of Conquest the belief of those who had disbelieved will not benefit them, nor will they be reprieved."

30فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَانتَظِرْ إِنَّهُم مُّنتَظِرُونَ

So turn away from them and wait. Indeed, they are waiting.
