Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-A'ma (الأَعْمَىٰ): The blind person — here referring to the one who is blind to the truth, unable to perceive the signs of Allah and the guidance of His religion.
- Al-Baseer (الْبَصِيرُ): The seeing person — here referring to the one whose heart is enlightened with faith, who sees the truth clearly and follows the straight path.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, in His infinite wisdom, draws a powerful and vivid comparison to illustrate the fundamental difference between the believer and the disbeliever. Just as a blind person and a seeing person can never be equal in their ability to perceive the world around them, so too can the one who is spiritually blind to the truth of Islam never be equal to the one whose heart has been illuminated by the light of faith.
The blind person stumbles in darkness, unable to distinguish between the path of safety and the path of destruction. Likewise, the one who turns away from Allah's guidance wanders aimlessly through life, unable to discern right from wrong, truth from falsehood. In contrast, the seeing person walks with confidence and clarity, avoiding pitfalls and reaching their destination safely. Similarly, the believer who has embraced faith sees life's purpose clearly, navigates through trials with wisdom, and ultimately reaches the eternal success of Paradise.
This verse serves as a profound reminder that the disbeliever and the believer are not equal in status, in conduct, or in their ultimate destiny. The disbeliever, like the blind, lives in the darkness of ignorance and misguidance, while the believer, like the seeing, walks in the radiant light of knowledge and divine guidance.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect upon this magnificent analogy. Allah is inviting you to open your eyes — not just the eyes of your head, but the eyes of your heart. The greatest tragedy is not physical blindness, but spiritual blindness that prevents a person from recognizing their Creator and the purpose of their existence.
The Quran is a light that illuminates every heart that sincerely seeks the truth. Do not let this precious opportunity pass you by. Open your heart to the message of Islam, and you will see how the darkness of confusion transforms into the brightness of certainty. You will taste the sweetness of faith that no worldly pleasure can match.
The choice is yours: will you remain among the blind, stumbling through life without direction, or will you join the seeing, walking confidently toward the eternal bliss that Allah has prepared for His righteous servants? The door of repentance and guidance is always open — do not delay your return to your Lord.
