Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Allah Almighty tells us about His Prophet Yunus (Jonah), peace be upon him, after the well-known story of his departure from his people in anger, his stay in the belly of the whale, and his sincere repentance to his Lord. Allah accepted his repentance and brought him out of the darkness of the whale's belly, healthy and sound.
Then, Allah sent him again to his people — the people of Nineveh in the land of Mosul — who numbered one hundred thousand or even more. This was a great mission to a vast community. The people of Yunus, upon his return, believed in him entirely — all of them, without exception — and they acted upon what he brought them. Because of their faith and righteous deeds, Allah granted them enjoyment in their worldly life until the time of their appointed death.
This verse highlights the immense mercy of Allah and His acceptance of repentance. Despite Yunus's earlier departure from his people, Allah did not abandon him; rather, He honored him with a renewed mission to an even greater number of people. And despite the people's earlier rejection, when they truly believed, Allah saved them from the punishment that had almost descended upon them and gave them a good life.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: never despair of Allah's mercy, and never lose hope in the guidance of others. Just as Allah transformed the situation of Yunus and his people from hardship to ease, from rejection to acceptance, He is able to transform the hearts of people today. The door of repentance is always open — both for the individual who feels he has fallen short, and for the society that has turned away from guidance. When people sincerely turn to Allah, He grants them success, honor, and a blessed life. Let us be bearers of this hope, calling others to Allah with the certainty that His help is near, and that no community is too large or too lost to be guided by His grace.
