Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • لِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا (For the like of this): Refers to the eternal bliss, everlasting reward, and supreme success described in the preceding verses of Paradise.
  • فَلْيَعْمَلِ الْعَامِلُونَ (Let the workers work): An imperative urging those who strive and exert effort to direct their deeds toward this ultimate goal.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse serves as a powerful call to action, urging every person of ambition and resolve to direct their efforts toward the eternal bliss that Allah has prepared for His righteous servants. After describing the magnificent rewards of Paradise—its gardens, rivers, companions, and everlasting peace—the verse declares that it is precisely for such an outcome that people should strive and labor in this worldly life.

The meaning is clear: if one is to work, let them work for something truly worthy. The fleeting pleasures of this world, mixed as they are with pain, anxiety, and inevitable decline, cannot compare to the everlasting joy that awaits the believers. This is the true trade that yields immense profit—exchanging temporary effort for eternal reward, limited deeds for unlimited mercy.

The verse subtly rebukes those who exhaust themselves chasing worldly gains that vanish like a mirage, while neglecting the everlasting treasure that requires only sincere faith and righteous action. It redirects human ambition toward its noblest end, reminding us that our energy, time, and capabilities are precious resources that should be invested where returns are guaranteed and never diminish.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, pause and consider: where is your effort directed? What occupies your days and nights? This verse invites you to elevate your ambition and purify your intentions. The doors of Paradise are open, and the path is clear—faith in Allah, following His Messenger ﷺ, and performing righteous deeds with sincerity. Every good deed you do, every temptation you resist, every prayer you offer is an investment in a reward that never fades. Let this verse ignite within you a renewed determination to work for what truly matters, for the eternal bliss that awaits those who strive. Indeed, the workers who understand the value of this prize will never waste their efforts on what is less than it.
