Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Na'am" (نَعَمْ): Yes, an affirmative response indicating agreement and promise.
- "Al-Muqarrabeen" (الْمُقَرَّبِينَ): Those who are brought near, honored, and given high status and close companionship to a ruler or authority.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, we see Pharaoh responding to his magicians after they made a bold request. They had asked him: "Will there indeed be a reward for us if we are the victors?" (Quran 7:113). Pharaoh, eager to secure their loyalty and motivated by his arrogance and desire to defeat Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him), replied: "Yes, and you will surely be among those brought near [to me]."
Pharaoh’s answer was twofold: First, he confirmed that they would receive a generous financial reward—a payment or prize for their services. Second, he promised them elevated ranks and prestigious positions in his court, making them his closest advisors and confidants. This was a classic tactic of tyrants: using worldly wealth, status, and flattery to buy allegiance and manipulate people into supporting falsehood against truth.
This verse highlights a profound lesson for believers. Pharaoh, despite his immense power and resources, could only offer temporary worldly gains—money, titles, and proximity to a corrupt ruler. Yet, these promises were hollow and fleeting. In contrast, Allah, the Almighty, offers His sincere servants something far greater: eternal rewards in Paradise, His pleasure, and the honor of being among "Al-Muqarrabeen" in the highest ranks of the Hereafter—those nearest to Him in His divine presence.
As a believer, reflect on this: Do not be seduced by the fleeting allure of worldly status or wealth that may lead you away from the truth. The magicians, who initially sought Pharaoh’s favor, later realized the greater truth when they witnessed the miracle of Musa (peace be upon him) and fell in prostration, declaring their faith in the Lord of the worlds—even at the cost of Pharaoh’s wrath and their own lives. Their ultimate reward was not Pharaoh’s false promise, but Allah’s eternal honor.
Let this verse inspire you to seek nearness to Allah rather than nearness to tyrants or worldly powers. True honor lies in being among those whom Allah loves and brings near to Him through faith, patience, and righteousness. And remember, Allah’s promise is always true and everlasting, while the promises of oppressors are but illusions that vanish like dust in the wind.
