Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- السَّحَرَةُ (al-Saharah): The magicians summoned by Pharaoh to compete against Prophet Musa (Moses), peace be upon him.
- أَلْقُوا (alqū): Throw down or cast forth.
- مَا أَنتُم مُلْقُونَ (mā antum mulqūn): Whatever you intend to throw or present.
Explanation of the Verse:
When the magicians finally arrived before Pharaoh, having been gathered from across his kingdom to challenge the truth, Prophet Musa, peace be upon him, addressed them with remarkable composure and unwavering confidence. He did not waver, nor did he show any fear of their numbers or their renowned skills. Instead, he simply said to them: "Cast down whatever you have prepared to cast"—meaning, throw onto the ground the ropes and staffs you have brought with you, and let your display begin.
This moment is profoundly significant. Musa, peace be upon him, was not merely issuing a challenge; he was demonstrating the certainty of a believer who knows that Allah’s truth will always prevail over falsehood, no matter how elaborate or intimidating the falsehood may appear. His words were calm, direct, and free from hesitation—a testament to his complete trust in Allah’s promise of victory.
A Da'wah Reflection for the Reader:
Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this scene. Here was a man standing alone against the might of an empire, facing the greatest illusionists of his time, yet his heart was at peace. Why? Because he knew that the power of Allah surpasses all power, and that no trickery of man can ever extinguish the light of truth. This is the essence of faith: to stand firm in the face of challenges, knowing that Allah is with those who believe.
In your own life, you may face "magicians" of various kinds—people who dazzle with false arguments, deceptive ideologies, or worldly temptations that seek to pull you away from the straight path. Let the example of Musa teach you to face them with confidence, not arrogance, and to trust that the truth of the Qur'an and the Sunnah will always shine through. When you rely on Allah, He will never abandon you, just as He never abandoned His Prophet Musa on that historic day. So hold fast to your faith, speak the truth with courage, and leave the rest to Allah—for victory belongs to the believers.
