- إِنَّكُمْ (Innakum): Indeed you — addressing the guests who arrived at his home.
- قَوْمٌ (Qawm): A group of people.

Explanation of the Verse:
When the angels, sent by Allah in the form of handsome young men, arrived at the house of Prophet Lut (peace be upon him), he did not recognize them. He was alarmed and troubled by their sudden appearance, especially because he lived in a society notorious for its wickedness and immorality. In this state of concern, Lut addressed them directly, saying: *"Indeed, you are a people unknown to me."*
This statement reflects several profound realities:
First, it shows the natural caution and wisdom of a prophet who was deeply aware of the dangers surrounding him. Lut was not being rude or inhospitable; rather, he was expressing genuine concern for the safety of these strangers in a land where corruption had reached its peak. He knew that if the wicked people of his city saw these handsome young guests, they would attempt to harm them, and he feared for their safety.
Second, this verse highlights the heavy burden that Prophet Lut carried — the weight of living among a people who had transgressed all bounds. His words reveal his state of mind: he was a man constantly on guard, protecting his household and any guests from the evil that surrounded him.
Third, the angels' arrival in human form was a test and a prelude to the divine punishment that was about to descend upon the people of Lut. His words here are the beginning of a conversation that would soon reveal the true nature of his guests and the great news they carried — the destruction of that wicked society and the deliverance of Lut and his family.
A Call to Reflection:
This brief yet powerful verse teaches us the importance of discernment and vigilance in our daily lives. Prophet Lut, despite being a noble prophet, did not blindly welcome strangers without assessing the situation. He was wise, cautious, and protective. This is a beautiful lesson for every believer: to be mindful of our surroundings, to protect our families and communities from harm, and to act with wisdom in every situation.
Moreover, this verse reminds us of the immense mercy of Allah. Even when a society has reached the lowest depths of corruption, Allah does not punish them until He sends His messengers and gives them every chance to reform. And when punishment does come, His righteous servants are always saved. This is a source of great hope for believers — that no matter how dark the world becomes, Allah's protection is with those who remain steadfast upon His path.
Let us take comfort in knowing that Allah sees our struggles, just as He saw the struggles of His Prophet Lut. And let us always remember that the end is for the righteous — a promise that never fails.
