This questioning will not be a casual inquiry; it will be a severe, humiliating interrogation of rebuke and accountability on the Day of Resurrection.

Allah will ask them about every lie they fabricated against His Book, every distortion they introduced, every act of idol worship they committed, and every sin and transgression they carried out in their lives. Nothing will be hidden, nothing will be forgotten, and no excuse will avail them. This verse serves as a terrifying warning and a powerful deterrent — a declaration that no one who rejects the truth or mocks the divine revelation will escape the ultimate reckoning.

The oath here is doubly emphatic: Allah swears by Himself, and He addresses His Prophet ﷺ by name, showing the gravity of the matter. When the Creator of the heavens and the earth takes an oath, it means the event is absolutely certain to occur. Just as they used their tongues to attack the Qur'an, their tongues will be asked to account for every word. Just as they used their minds to devise falsehood, their minds will be questioned about their reasoning.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart! If Allah — the Most Merciful, the Most Just — has sworn by His own glory that He will question every soul, then how can we afford to be careless about our deeds? This is not a threat from a tyrant, but a promise from the Most Wise, who loves justice and hates oppression. He does not need to question us for His own knowledge — He knows everything — but He will do so to establish justice and to show every soul the truth of its own actions.

This verse is a call to every Muslim to hold the Qur'an with reverence, to ponder its meanings, and to live by its guidance. It is a warning to those who mock or distort the divine message that their end will be one of regret and loss. But it is also a source of comfort for the believers: if the enemies of truth will be questioned for their falsehood, then the patient believers will certainly be rewarded for their faith.

So, before that Day arrives — a Day when every soul will stand alone before its Lord — let us turn to Allah in sincere repentance, let us honor His Book by reading it, understanding it, and acting upon it, and let us prepare answers for the questions we will inevitably face. For the One who swore by His majesty will not break His promise, and His justice is more perfect than any justice we can imagine.
