Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

(Faraqna): We split or divided, making a separation.
(Bikum): Because of you, or for your sake.
  • آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ (Āl Fir‘awn): The family, followers, and army of Pharaoh.
(Tanzurūn): You were looking on, witnessing with your own eyes.

Explanation of the Verse:

Remember, O Children of Israel, that great favor of Allah upon you when He split the sea for your sake. He commanded the sea to part, and it obeyed, forming dry paths through which you walked safely, while the water stood like towering walls on either side. Thus, He saved you from the tyranny of Pharaoh and his army, and from drowning in the sea. Then, when Pharaoh and his forces pursued you into those very paths, Allah caused the waters to close over them, drowning them all—while you watched with your own eyes. You witnessed their destruction firsthand, seeing the very enemy who had enslaved and oppressed you utterly destroyed before you. This was a manifest sign of Allah’s power and His care for you, a moment of triumph and deliverance that should have filled your hearts with gratitude and unwavering faith.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

This scene from history is not merely a story of the past—it is a living lesson for every generation. Allah’s promise to His believing servants is true: no matter how overwhelming the enemy or how impossible the situation may seem, His help is near. The sea that seemed like a barrier of death became a path of salvation for the believers, and the same sea became a grave for the oppressors. When you place your trust in Allah and follow His command, He makes a way out of every hardship. And when you witness the downfall of tyrants, know that Allah never abandons His righteous servants. Let this verse inspire you to hold firm to your faith, to trust in Allah’s wisdom, and to know that He is always with those who believe. For the One who split the sea for His prophets is the same Lord who hears your prayers today—so call upon Him with certainty, and He will answer.

📜 Verse 48-52 — Al-Baqarah

And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul at all, nor will intercession be accepted from it, nor will compensation be taken from it, nor will they be aided.
And [recall] when We saved your forefathers from the people of Pharaoh, who afflicted you with the worst torment, slaughtering your [newborn] sons and keeping your females alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.
And [recall] when We parted the sea for you and saved you and drowned the people of Pharaoh while you were looking on.
And [recall] when We made an appointment with Moses for forty nights. Then you took [for worship] the calf after him, while you were wrongdoers.
Then We forgave you after that so perhaps you would be grateful.
