Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Samʿ (السمع): Here it refers to eavesdropping or stealthily listening to the heavenly realm (the angels' conversations in the sky).
- La-maʿzūlūn (لمعزولون): Removed, barred, or cut off—meaning they are completely prevented and distanced from that place.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse comes as a decisive refutation of the pagans' claim that the Qur'an was brought down by devils or evil spirits to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Allah, the Exalted, declares that such a thing is utterly impossible and far from reality. The devils are not only incapable of descending with the Qur'an, but they are also completely isolated and barred from even approaching the heavenly realm where divine revelation originates. They are driven away by blazing fireballs (shooting stars) whenever they attempt to steal a listen to the angels' discussions in the heavens. Thus, how could they possibly bring down a Book of such majesty and truth when they cannot even get near its source?
The verse highlights the absolute protection of divine revelation. Allah has safeguarded the heavens from any satanic interference, ensuring that the Qur'an remains pure, untainted, and solely from Him. This is a profound sign of His mercy toward humanity—that His final message is preserved from any corruption or alteration.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
This verse invites every sincere seeker of truth to reflect on the purity and authenticity of the Qur'an. If the devils—who are relentless enemies of mankind—could not even approach the source of this revelation, then how can anyone doubt its divine origin? The Qur'an stands as a beacon of light, untouched by falsehood from any direction. It is a direct communication from your Lord, filled with guidance, mercy, and the path to eternal success. Open your heart to it, and you will find that it speaks to your soul in ways no other book can—because it comes from the One who created you and knows exactly what you need. Let this certainty draw you closer to Allah, for in His words lies the ultimate peace and salvation.
