Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "لَا تُخْزِنِي" (lā tukhzinī): Do not disgrace me, do not humiliate me, or do not put me to shame.
  • "يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ" (yawma yubʿathūn): The Day when all people are raised from their graves for resurrection and judgment.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this heartfelt supplication, Prophet Ibrāhīm (Abraham, peace be upon him) continues his profound prayer to his Lord, saying: *"And do not disgrace me on the Day when they are resurrected."* He is asking Allah to protect him from any form of humiliation or public shame on the Day of Judgment—the day when all of humanity will be raised from their graves to stand before their Creator for reckoning and recompense.

This is not merely a request for safety from punishment, but a plea for honor and dignity in the most critical moment of existence. On that Day, no wealth, no children, no status, and no worldly power will avail anyone. The only thing that will save a person is a heart that is pure and sound—free from shirk (associating partners with Allah), free from hypocrisy, and free from moral corruption. Ibrāhīm's prayer reflects his deep awareness that true success lies in being raised with honor, not disgrace, and that this honor is granted only through sincere faith and righteous deeds.

A Daʿwah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a profound lesson about the reality of the Hereafter. Every one of us will stand before Allah on that awesome Day, and our greatest fear should not be the loss of worldly things, but the fear of being disgraced in front of all creation. Imagine standing before Allah while your deeds are displayed—what a moment of joy for the believer who lived a life of obedience, and what a moment of regret for the one who neglected their duty to their Creator!

Let this beautiful supplication of Ibrāhīm inspire you to live a life that earns you honor on that Day. Purify your heart, strengthen your faith, and fill your life with good deeds. The Qur'an and the Sunnah are your guides, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is your perfect example. Turn to Allah in sincere repentance today, for He is the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving. Ask Him, as Ibrāhīm did, to protect you from disgrace on the Day of Resurrection, and strive to be among those who will be called to Paradise with honor and joy. May Allah grant us all a pure heart and a successful standing before Him.
