Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Sihr (سِحْر): Magic or sorcery — an illusion that deceives the eye and mind, making falsehood appear as truth.
- Mubeen (مُبِين): Clear, evident, or manifest — something so obvious that no one can deny its nature.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, Allah informs us of the response of the disbelievers when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) called them to the truth of monotheism and the resurrection after death. They said: "This is nothing but clear magic!" — meaning that what he brought them — the Qur'an, the prophethood, and the news of life after death — was, in their claim, nothing more than sorcery that dazzles the eyes and confuses the minds.
Their accusation was not based on any evidence or rational proof. Rather, it was a stubborn rejection of the truth, a defensive reaction from hearts hardened by arrogance and blind following of their ancestors. They called it "clear magic" because the Qur'an's eloquence and profound impact on hearts were undeniable — so instead of submitting to it, they labeled it as sorcery to justify their refusal.
Yet, the irony is profound: if it were truly magic, it would have faded and lost its power over time. But the Qur'an remains a living miracle, challenging humanity to produce even a single chapter like it — a challenge that has stood for over fourteen centuries, unanswered.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, when you encounter the Qur'an, do not let pride or habit veil your heart from its message. The same Qur'an that the disbelievers dismissed as "clear magic" has transformed nations, illuminated minds, and brought peace to countless souls across the centuries. It is not magic — it is the word of your Creator, full of mercy and guidance. Open your heart to it, and you will find in it the answers to your deepest questions and the light that dispels every darkness. Let not the words of those who rejected the truth before you become an obstacle between you and the eternal success that awaits those who believe.
