Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- الْمُخْلَصِينَ (al-mukhlasin): Those who are purified and sincerely devoted to Allah, whose worship and faith are free from any trace of hypocrisy or association of partners with Him.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the narrative of the disbelievers of Makkah before the advent of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They used to claim: "If only we had received a scripture like those who came before us—such as the Torah or the Gospel—we would have been the most devoted servants of Allah, sincere in our faith and pure in our worship." They imagined that they would have excelled in obedience and avoided the errors of previous nations.
However, their claim was a hollow pretension. When Allah sent His final Messenger with the Qur'an—the greatest of all revelations—they rejected it and disbelieved in it. Their words contradicted their actions, exposing their falsehood. Had they truly been sincere in their desire for guidance, they would have embraced the Qur'an when it reached them. Instead, they turned away in arrogance and denial, and they will soon come to know the severe consequences of their rejection on the Day of Judgment.
A Call to Reflection and Sincerity:
Dear reader, how often do we make grand claims about our faith while our actions tell a different story? This verse is a profound reminder that Allah judges us by our deeds, not our words. The disbelievers of Makkah claimed they would have been devoted servants if given the chance—yet when the chance came, they fled from it.
Let this be a lesson for us all: the Qur'an is before you today, a living miracle and a complete guide. Do not be like those who wait for conditions to be perfect before they commit to Allah. Rather, seize this moment to purify your heart, strengthen your faith, and become among the sincere servants (al-mukhlasin) who worship Allah with unwavering devotion. The door of repentance is open, and Allah's mercy is vast. Do not let your claims remain empty—let your life bear witness to your faith.
