Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Munqaliboon" (مُنقَلِبُونَ): Those who will return or be turned back. It signifies the certain return to Allah after death.

Tafsir (Explanation):

When Pharaoh, in his arrogant rage, threatened the magicians with severe punishment—cutting off their hands and feet on opposite sides and crucifying them—they responded with unwavering faith and tranquility. They said: "Indeed, we are returning to our Lord." This statement was not merely an acknowledgment of death; it was a declaration of their complete trust in Allah and their certainty in the Hereafter. They had just witnessed a manifest miracle through Prophet Musa (peace be upon him), and their hearts were illuminated with true faith. They realized that whatever punishment Pharaoh could inflict in this fleeting world was nothing compared to the eternal punishment of Allah, and equally, the reward of Allah for their patience and faith was far greater than any temporary comfort Pharaoh could offer. Their words reflect a profound spiritual transformation—from being servants of Pharaoh to becoming devoted servants of Allah, unafraid of worldly threats because their eyes were fixed on the eternal meeting with their Lord.

Da'wah Reflection:

This verse teaches us a powerful lesson in faith and courage. These magicians were experts in their craft, enjoying Pharaoh's favor and wealth, yet they gave it all up in an instant when the truth became clear to them. Their response shows that true faith brings a peace that surpasses all worldly fears. When a believer knows that their ultimate destination is Allah, no tyrant's threat can shake them. This is the essence of *tawakkul* (reliance on Allah)—to be so certain of Allah's promise that the threats of creation become insignificant. Let us ask ourselves: Are we willing to stand for truth even when it costs us comfort, status, or relationships? The magicians teach us that the moment we prioritize Allah's pleasure over everything else, He grants us a strength that amazes even our enemies. Their story is a beacon of hope—no matter how far one has strayed, sincere faith can transform a person into a hero of truth in the blink of an eye. May Allah grant us the same certainty and courage.

📜 Verse 123-127 — Al-A'raf

Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know.
I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all."
They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return.
And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]."
And the eminent among the people of Pharaoh said," Will you leave Moses and his people to cause corruption in the land and abandon you and your gods?" [Pharaoh] said, "We will kill their sons and keep their women alive; and indeed, we are subjugators over them."
