|
(72) By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.
|
|
﴿وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ٱلۡحَكِيمِ ﴾ [Yā-Sīn: 2]
(2) By the wise Qur'an.
|
|
﴿وَٱلصَّٰٓفَّٰتِ صَفّٗا ﴾ [Aṣ-Ṣāffāt: 1]
(1) By those [angels] lined up in rows
|
|
﴿
صٓۚ وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ذِي ٱلذِّكۡرِ * بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِي عِزَّةٖ وَشِقَاقٖ * كَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّن قَرۡنٖ فَنَادَواْ وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٖ ﴾ [Ṣād: 1-3]
(1) Sad. By the Qur'an containing reminder... (2) But those who disbelieve are in pride and dissension. (3) How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape.
|
|
﴿وَٱلۡكِتَٰبِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ ﴾ [Az-Zukhruf: 2]
(2) By the clear Book,
|
|
﴿وَٱلۡكِتَٰبِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ ﴾ [Ad-Dukhān: 2]
(2) By the clear Book,
|
|
﴿قٓۚ وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ٱلۡمَجِيدِ ﴾ [Qāf: 1]
(1) Qaf. By the honored Qur'an...
|
|
﴿
وَٱلذَّٰرِيَٰتِ ذَرۡوٗا * فَٱلۡحَٰمِلَٰتِ وِقۡرٗا * فَٱلۡجَٰرِيَٰتِ يُسۡرٗا * فَٱلۡمُقَسِّمَٰتِ أَمۡرًا ﴾ [Adh-Dhāriyāt: 1-4]
(1) By those [winds] scattering [dust] dispersing (2) And those [clouds] carrying a load [of water] (3) And those [ships] sailing with ease (4) And those [angels] apportioning [each] matter,
|
|
(7) By the heaven containing pathways,
|
|
﴿فَوَرَبِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقّٞ مِّثۡلَ مَآ أَنَّكُمۡ تَنطِقُونَ ﴾ [Adh-Dhāriyāt: 23]
(23) Then by the Lord of the heaven and earth, indeed, it is truth - just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking.

|
﴿
وَٱلطُّورِ * وَكِتَٰبٖ مَّسۡطُورٖ * فِي رَقّٖ مَّنشُورٖ * وَٱلۡبَيۡتِ ٱلۡمَعۡمُورِ * وَٱلسَّقۡفِ ٱلۡمَرۡفُوعِ * وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ ٱلۡمَسۡجُورِ ﴾ [Aṭ-Ṭūr: 1-6]
(1) By the mount (2) And [by] a Book inscribed (3) In parchment spread open (4) And [by] the frequented House (5) And [by] the heaven raised high (6) And [by] the sea filled [with fire],
|
|
﴿وَٱلنَّجۡمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ ﴾ [An-Najm: 1]
(1) By the star when it descends,
|
|
﴿
۞ فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ * وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٞ لَّوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ ﴾ [Al-Wāqi‘ah: 75-76]
(75) Then I swear by the setting of the stars, (76) And indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great.
|
|
(1) Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe,
|
|
(38) So I swear by what you see (39) And what you do not see
|
|
(40) So I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able
|
|
﴿
كـَلَّا وَٱلۡقَمَرِ * وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذۡ أَدۡبَرَ * وَٱلصُّبۡحِ إِذَآ أَسۡفَرَ ﴾ [Al-Muddaththir: 32-34]
(32) No! By the moon (33) And [by] the night when it departs (34) And [by] the morning when it brightens,
|
|
﴿
لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ * وَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلنَّفۡسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ ﴾ [Al-Qiyāmah: 1-2]
(1) I swear by the Day of Resurrection (2) And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].

|
﴿
وَٱلۡمُرۡسَلَٰتِ عُرۡفٗا * فَٱلۡعَٰصِفَٰتِ عَصۡفٗا * وَٱلنَّٰشِرَٰتِ نَشۡرٗا * فَٱلۡفَٰرِقَٰتِ فَرۡقٗا * فَٱلۡمُلۡقِيَٰتِ ذِكۡرًا * عُذۡرًا أَوۡ نُذۡرًا ﴾ [Al-Mursalāt: 1-6]
(1) By those [winds] sent forth in gusts (2) And the winds that blow violently (3) And [by] the winds that spread [clouds] (4) And those [angels] who bring criterion (5) And those [angels] who deliver a message (6) As justification or warning,
|
|
﴿
وَٱلنَّٰزِعَٰتِ غَرۡقٗا * وَٱلنَّٰشِطَٰتِ نَشۡطٗا * وَٱلسَّٰبِحَٰتِ سَبۡحٗا * فَٱلسَّٰبِقَٰتِ سَبۡقٗا * فَٱلۡمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمۡرٗا ﴾ [An-Nāzi‘āt: 1-5]
(1) By those [angels] who extract with violence (2) And [by] those who remove with ease (3) And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming (4) And those who race each other in a race (5) And those who arrange [each] matter,
|
|
﴿
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلۡخُنَّسِ * ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡكُنَّسِ * وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا عَسۡعَسَ * وَٱلصُّبۡحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ ﴾ [At-Takwīr: 15-18]
(15) So I swear by the retreating stars - (16) Those that run [their courses] and disappear - (17) And by the night as it closes in (18) And by the dawn when it breathes
|
|
﴿
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ * وَٱلَّيۡلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ * وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ ﴾ [Al-Inshiqāq: 16-18]
(16) So I swear by the twilight glow (17) And [by] the night and what it envelops (18) And [by] the moon when it becomes full

|
﴿
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡبُرُوجِ * وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡمَوۡعُودِ * وَشَاهِدٖ وَمَشۡهُودٖ ﴾ [Al-Burūj: 1-3]
(1) By the sky containing great stars (2) And [by] the promised Day (3) And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,
|
|
﴿
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ * وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ * ٱلنَّجۡمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ ﴾ [Aṭ-Ṭāriq: 1-3]
(1) By the sky and the night comer - (2) And what can make you know what is the night comer? (3) It is the piercing star -
|
|
(11) By the sky which returns [rain] (12) And [by] the earth which cracks open,
|
|
﴿
وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ * وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٖ * وَٱلشَّفۡعِ وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ * وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَسۡرِ * هَلۡ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٞ لِّذِي حِجۡرٍ ﴾ [Al-Fajr: 1-5]
(1) By the dawn (2) And [by] ten nights (3) And [by] the even [number] and the odd (4) And [by] the night when it passes, (5) Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?
|
|
﴿
لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ * وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ * وَوَالِدٖ وَمَا وَلَدَ ﴾ [Al-Balad: 1-3]
(1) I swear by this city, Makkah - (2) And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - (3) And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],
|
|
﴿
وَٱلشَّمۡسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا * وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا * وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا * وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰهَا * وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا * وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا * وَنَفۡسٖ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا * فَأَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقۡوَىٰهَا ﴾ [Ash-Shams: 1-8]
(1) By the sun and its brightness (2) And [by] the moon when it follows it (3) And [by] the day when it displays it (4) And [by] the night when it covers it (5) And [by] the sky and He who constructed it (6) And [by] the earth and He who spread it (7) And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it (8) And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,
|
|
﴿
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰ * وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ * وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰٓ ﴾ [Al-Lail: 1-3]
(1) By the night when it covers (2) And [by] the day when it appears (3) And [by] He who created the male and female,
|
|
(1) By the morning brightness (2) And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,
|
|
(1) By the fig and the olive (2) And [by] Mount Sinai (3) And [by] this secure city [Makkah],
|
|
﴿
وَٱلۡعَٰدِيَٰتِ ضَبۡحٗا * فَٱلۡمُورِيَٰتِ قَدۡحٗا * فَٱلۡمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبۡحٗا * فَأَثَرۡنَ بِهِۦ نَقۡعٗا * فَوَسَطۡنَ بِهِۦ جَمۡعًا ﴾ [Al-‘Ādiyāt: 1-5]
(1) By the racers, panting, (2) And the producers of sparks [when] striking (3) And the chargers at dawn, (4) Stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust, (5) Arriving thereby in the center collectively,
|
|
﴿وَٱلۡعَصۡرِ ﴾ [Al-‘Aṣr: 1]
(1) By time,
